A CCTV system is a great way to keep tabs on the security of your home. This SECURITYMATE system offers an easy DIY installation too.
The kit includes a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) with a 1 TB hard drive and four cameras, as well as all the necessary cabling and mounting hardware. The cameras have 1080 P resolution, IP66 rating for weather protection and night vision with a 30 m reach.
The cameras need to be connected to the DVR via the 18 m-long cables, so bear that in mind when installing them. While the cameras are waterproof, we recommend giving them some weather protection by placing them high under the eaves.
Mark the position of the drill holes for the mounting plate and drill themusing wall anchors. Attach the cables to the cameras and run them to the location of the DVR. The DVR should be positioned fairly close to your internet router and on a plug circuit with a surge protector.
The DVR can be connected to a computer monitor or you can access the footage via the XMEye app on your smartphone.
Once the system has been installed, power it up and run through the setup wizard. There is a comprehensive, well-written setup manual that will take you through everything step-by-step.
Recorded footage is easily accessed by selecting the day and then scrolling to the approximate time. The view can also be customised to have multiple cameras showing on one screen or scrolling through each camera.
We mentioned that the DVR has a 1 TB hard drive – that’s large enough to store approximately 28 days of non-stop footage from four cameras!
