Stir up some passion this Valentine’s Day with DIY gifts of love: home-made heart-felt coasters. Show you care and spray paint your love this #VD.
Create the look
What you’ll need:
- Cork coasters
- Masking tape and heart stencil
- Drop sheet
- Bulls Eye 123 primer
- Painter’s Touch 2X: Sweet Pea Satin, Gloss Ocean Mist, Gloss Berry Pink and Gloss Clear.
Prepare
Before you start painting, make sure you protect your work area with a drop cloth. Cork sucks up paint so mask out your pattern before you prime your coasters with Bullseye 123 primer. Leave to cure for an hour and then spray a look you’ll love. Being such a small surface area – fully cover those parts you don’t want painted.
Top Tip
To avoid paint lifting up as you remove the masking tape from the cork – peel it off slowly before the paint is fully dry.
Paint
Shake your first Painter’s Touch can for one minute after you hear the mixing ball begin to rattle. Hold the can upright, 30cm from the coaster and add your first colour. Let it sit for a few minutes before applying the second and final coat – if it even needs it. Leave to cure for up to two hours before covering and revealing the next piece of cork in your pattern that you are going to spray.
Finish
Repeat this process with each colour, shaking the cans, spraying and curing so as to create coasters you can raise a glass to. For added protection – use Painter’s Touch 2X clear coat.
