Make these cement tablecloth weights and add a dash of style to your entertaining.

Cement is versatile and easy to work with – all you need is a mould. Anything small would do for a table weight mould. We used plastic shot glasses filled with a shot of cement and topped with a crocodile clip, then dipped in the metallic of the moment – rose gold.
Tools for the job

  • Latex gloves
  • Bucket for mixing the cement
  • Measuring tape

Materials you will need

  • One cup sand
  • One cup cement
  • Water
  • Four plastic shot glasses as moulds
  • Four crocodile clips with rings attached
  • Harlequin Real Metal paint – Rose Gold

Step 1

Mix the sand and cement in equal parts in a bucket. Add water to the mixture slowly, mixing continually until it’s the consistency of stodgy dough. Do not make it too wet as this weakens the cement.

Step 2

Fill the shot glasses with cement.

Step 3

Knock the shot glasses on the work surface to get rid of air bubbles.

Step 4

Drop the ring of the crocodile clamp into the cement, and leave your project to dry for a couple of days, depending on the weather.

Top Tip:

Attach the clips to a dowel stick positioned just high enough to ensure the rings are embedded in the cement. This prevents them from falling over and sinking into the cement.

Step 5

Remove the table weights from their moulds. If they stick, tap them a few times on a hard surface.

Step 6

Dip each weight halfway into the paint.

Step 7

Let them drip dry using your nifty dowel-stick hanger again. Once the paint is dry, you’re ready to set the table.
