An out-of-date coffee table was given a new purpose by adding a vinyl racing track surface to the top and painting the legs.
- An old coffee table
- Dulux universal primer
- Plascon Burnt Horizon
- Racing track vinyl
- Staple gun
- Paintbrushes
- Solvent to clean brushes after priming
Step 1
Sand the table to remove old varnish and paint.
Step 2
Prime the surface with Dulux universal primer using a sponge roller for the flat surfaces and a 38mm brush for the legs. Leave to dry in a well-ventilated area for about four hours.
Step 3
When the undercoat is dry, paint the primed legs with Plascon Burnt Horizon. Apply two coats to ensure an even red finish.
Step 4
Measure the top of the table and cut the vinyl so that it goes over the edges of the top of the table. This will ensure that you will be able to staple the vinyl to the tabletop at the bottom of the top so that the staples don’t show.
Step 5
Cut the sides of the vinyl so you can wrap the edges neatly as if you were covering a book.
Step 6
Staple the vinyl sheet to the tabletop by using a staple gun. Simply add a few cars and let the fun begin! This table is also very handy for art projects as the top wipes clean.
