How to upcycle a car tyre into a hanging planter

Use an old tyre to make a unique hanging planter for flowering and trailing plants

• Tyre
• Rope
• Potting soil
• Trailing plants
• Rust-Oleum Painter’s
• Touch 2x spray paint
• Drill with 10 or 12mm metal drill bit

Step 1

Spray the tyre with two coats of Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch 2x, which is a paint and primer in one, allowing the paint to dry in between coats.

Step 2

Drill at least six drainage holes at the bottom of the tyre. Use a metal drill bit as there’s steel inside the rubber.

Step 3

Fasten your rope using a hangman’s noose knot.

Step 4

Fill the inside of the tyre with potting soil where you’ve drilled the drainage holes, and plant the plants in the soil.
