Braai pies are the latest foodie trend – serve these at your next get-together and impress your guests.

Serves: 4 Ingredients:
  • Olive oil, for sautéing
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 400g baby spinach leaves, washed well
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 200g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 500g store-bought bread dough
In a large saucepan, over medium heat, saute the garlic and onion in the olive oil until soft and translucent. Add the spinach leaves and sauté until wilted. Season well with salt, black pepper and nutmeg. Allow to cool completely then stir in the crumbled feta cheese. Pat the bread dough out into a large circle and place the filling on one side. Fold the dough over to form a semicircle and pinch the sides closed. Place on a braai grid over a medium-low heat and braai until golden and puffed on the one side. Flip over and braai on the other side until the dough is cooked through and the filling in the centre is piping hot. Cut into slices and serve immediately.
