When putting in the hard work of a wood restoration, it makes sense to use a top-quality product.

Fired Earth Velvet Wood

Our garage doors endure a relentless barrage from the elements. Think about it – scorching sun, torrential downpours, mist and wind – they brave it all, day in and day out. But we seldom spare a thought for their upkeep. The solution? Fired Earth Velvet Wood, a remarkable wood preservative that’s not only going to rejuvenate the appearance of these doors but will also nourish and protect the timber.

The first step is an easy one – grab a random orbital sander fitted with 80-grit sandpaper and start sanding. This will strip away the old sealant and whatever else is clinging to the surface. Follow that up with a 120-grit sandpaper for a smooth finish that will look like the door’s original state. Depending on your door’s design, you might have to resort to some manual sanding to get into grooves and recesses.

When the sanding is done, brush away the dust with a block brush followed by a quick wipe-down with a rag soaked in thinners. Thinners will remove any oil, grease and dust that might ruin the final result, and it evaporates quickly.

Once that’s sorted, it’s time to break out the paintbrush. Applying the Fired Earth Velvet Wood with a brush, as opposed to a roller, will let you get into every crack and corner. This solvent-based preservative isn’t just sitting on the surface; it’s being absorbed, drawn into the timber, nourishing the wood and also putting an end to dry rot and flaking. It’s a water repellent too.

We recommend two coats of the Fired Earth Velvet Wood. Sure, one might seem enough at first glance, but applying two coats means that you won’t have to repaint for years to come. It also means that future maintenance coats could just require a gentle sanding before reapplication. Remember to wait 24 hours to make sure the first coat is completely dry before applying the second coat.

Fired Earth Velvet Wood Preservative isn’t any run-of-the-mill product – it’s a top-notch UV protector for outdoor wood surfaces, drying to a classy suede finish. From window frames to doors, cladding to furniture, and of course garage doors, this wood preservative has got you covered. It’s available in a clear finish as well as in various tints, and you don’t need to worry about cracks or peeling; if applied and maintained properly, it will stand the test of time.

Now, a quick note about cleaning up. As soon as you’re done, give your brushes and trays a thorough clean with mineral turpentine.

Once the clean up is finished, take a moment to appreciate a job well done. No doubt your garage doors are looking beautiful and new again!
