Sweet and sour in all the right ways! The seasonal passion fruit, or granadilla, is a favourite among South African gardeners.

Plant passion fruit vines as soon as you can to enjoy a luscious harvest come next summer. Don’t have the garden space for growing passion fruits? Plant vines in pots for an aesthetic and portable addition to your terrace or balcony.

How to plant: PASSION FRUIT VINES IN THE GARDEN

  • Dig holes about the size of each root mass, and space them about 1.5m apart.
  • Plant the passion fruit vines in each hole, cover the roots with soil, and water well.
  • Position a strong support next to each plant so they can grow upwards, or plant them next to a fence. Keep in mind that vines can grow six metres in height.
  • Mix Wonder Fruit & Flower into the surface layer of soil, and apply mulch.

How to plant: PASSION FRUIT VINES IN containers

  • Find pots of a suitable size ones that are larger than the vines’ root systems.
  • Fill the pots with a mixture of nutrient-rich potting soil and Wonder Plant Starter All Purpose.
  • Plant the vines in each pot, cover the roots with soil, and water well.
  • Position a strong support in the soil next to each plant so they can grow upwards. A wire trellis would work well so you can move the pots around.
