How to make a herb trolley for your kitchen

Herbs don’t get fresher than when you grow them right in your kitchen – make your own herb planter!

• 22 x 94mm pine planks cut to the following sizes:
  • 17 x 1 000mm lengths
  • 4 x 210mm lengths
  • 8 x 400mm lengths
  • 3 x 1 040mm lengths
• 32 x 69mm pine plank cut to:
  • 3 x 350mm lengths
• 120 self-cut screws (4x40mm)
• 120-grit sandpaper
• Plastic lining (or drop sheet)
• Four PVC spoked wheels (135mm)
• Four hex screws and nuts (8 x 70mm)
• Masking tape
• Modo Non-Drip Satin Enamel – Cactus Flower P065-W4
• Harlequin Exterior Varnish

Step 1

Place three P1 planks next to each other, and use the measuring tape to space them evenly apart so the outside measurement is 3 580mm. Screw three P5 support beams across the P1s – one on each end and one in the middle.

Step 2

Front and back: Place three P1s next to each other and screw two P2s at a right angle at each end so that there is a clearance of 22mm at one side – this is where the base will fit in. Make two.

Step 3

Screw the sides to the base.

Step 4

Short sides: Attach three P3s to each of the short ends of your box with screws.

Step 5

Legs: Screw two P1s to each corner of the box with the top end level with the top of the box. First screw a P1 to the long side level with the end of the box, then on the short side level with the leg you’ve just attached.

Step 6

Shelf: Attach a P3 to the inside of the legs at the short end, 400mm from the bottom on both sides. Space the P4s evenly on the crossbars and screw in place.

Step 7

Wheels: Drill a hole with the 8mm drill bit in the centre of each leg about 45mm from the bottom. Bolt a wheel on each leg and secure with a nut.

Step 8

Line your box with plastic lining such as a thick drop sheet, securing it in place with staples, and trim the excess plastic with a craft knife.

Step 9

Mask diamond shapes on the front of the box and paint it with two coats of Modo Non-Drip Satin Enamel in the colour Cactus Flower, letting the paint dry between coats. Once the second coat is dry, peel the masking tape off.
